Gather round friends and let me tell you about a terrible period of my life:
The Covid times.
Like most parents, I was going batshit crazy working full-time as a healthcare professional while also “balancing” (which is absolutely the wrong word) the endless school shutdowns we saw here in Canada.
I tried running.
And petting dogs.
And drinking.
But turning to social media to write snappy jokes about marriage, parenting, and the perils of middle-aged womanhood and discovering a community of like-minded people to laugh along with me truly filled my cup and got me through to the other side.
It also opened my eyes to the endless sea of internet arseholes who told me to cherish every moment and informed me I’m a terrible parent who doesn’t deserve to be blessed with children… but I digress.
What started as a wee account on social media, @IHideFromMyKids, blossomed, and morphed and I stumbled upon Medium, which gave me the freedom and platform to explore writing longer form pieces and connect with an amazing community of writers and readers.
What you’ll read on my page:
- Anything and everything I find annoying. And I find anything and everything annoying.
- Humour pieces about parenting and kids. My kids. Other people’s kids.
- Jokes about corporate life.
- The odd heartfelt story because let’s be honest, life these days isn’t always funny.
- Some very confused Canadian and American spelling.
One more thing in the spirit of sharing:
I wrote a binge-worthy psychological thriller that I’m hoping to publish in the near future—like I said, it was a dark time. I’m excited to see where this all takes me—hopefully away from corporate healthcare. Please fuck.
I hope you’ll follow along so we can share in life's laughs and miseries together.
